Majyk Equipe says its pads must not be machine washed or tumble dried. Identify the exact pad and follow its current care instructions, including any separate directions for wool, sheepskin or removable inserts.
Read the care instructions before choosing a wash method
Do not apply a standard saddle-pad laundry routine to every material. The manufacturer's Product Care page gives specific limits for its pads. Check the label supplied with your model as well, and ask the supplier if the two appear inconsistent.
Identify the construction
Record whether the pad is mesh, fleece, wool, sheepskin or a combination. Check for removable shims and other inserts. A reversible pad still needs its own care instructions; being able to turn it over does not mean both sides can tolerate any detergent or cleaning method.
A before-and-after checklist
- Identify the exact pad and read the label.
- Remove loose hair and surface debris without damaging the material.
- Remove inserts only as directed and keep them identifiable.
- Use the manufacturer's cleaning method and appropriate cleaning product.
- Dry as directed, then check the pad and inserts before reassembly.
Inspect while the pad is clean
Look at seams, fastenings, pocket openings and the working surfaces. Check for compacted areas, worn fabric or damaged components. Cleaning should make inspection easier; it does not restore a damaged pad or prove that the saddle arrangement remains suitable.
Store the dry pad thoughtfully
Keep it in a clean, ventilated place where it is not being crushed beneath heavy equipment. Put removable pieces with their own pad so a borrowed or misplaced insert does not create confusion. If a shared tack room contains several similar pads, a label on the storage bag can help identify the model and its care sheet.
Use the current manufacturer instructions for temperatures, products and handling.
